VIRTUS – Safe Environment

Bishop Mark Seitz has mandated that ALL adults employed or volunteering in the Diocese of El Paso must participate in our new Safe Environment Program – “PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN”. This program for adults contains information on identifying the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and the steps one can take to prevent it. There is an emphasis on the legal requirement to report suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities.

You can register on-line, by going to www.virtus.org. On the left side of the screen, just below the header, you will see a link in yellow for REGISTRATION. Click on the link and follow the instructions to create your profile and sign up for the training sessions. Note that there is a limited number of seats for each session. When you see the screen thanking you for your registration, you will see information about the Background Check. Please click on the link at the bottom that takes you to FASTRAX. Then you can complete the form to process your Background Check.

If you do NOT complete the Background Check and/or the PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN Training, you will no longer be allowed to serve in Ministry. Any new volunteers or employees must complete these requirements before they may begin serving. There is an annual online renewal training that is mandatory to continue serving in Ministry.

After completing your on-line registration and Background Check signup for an in person VIRTUS training session at St. Patrick Cathedral. The Safe Environment training sessions are held on the Second Saturday of every month from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. You must confirm pre-registration to attend. Walk-ins are not allowed.

If you have any questions please contact Martha Briseno, the St. Patrick Safe Environment Coordinator at (915-533-4451 ext 112) or email her at safeenvironment@saintpartickcathedral.org if you have any questions.
